Last week saw the return of a live, in-room auction. Will other auctioneers return to in-room auctions? Or will they remain online only?

URL to IRL? Are “In Real Life” Property Auctions Returning for Good?
By Mark Grantham – 19th September 2021
For the past 18 months, all property auctions in the UK have been held online. The usual “in the room” auctions simply weren’t an option with “COVID-19 social distancing” ruling out any type of mass gathering.
Although the move to online auctions was sudden and unplanned, the success rates have been surprisingly good. In fact, during the midst of the pandemic some auctioneers were questioning whether they would ever need to return to in-room auctions.
The first major auctioneer to return to a live ballroom auction was Barnard Marcus Auctions. The event took place on the 14th of September 2021 at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London – the same place Barnard Marcus Auctions used as their regular venue before the pandemic.
The auction was successful. But will other auctioneers want the cost and hassle of running an in-room auction, when online works perfectly well?
A property industry news website questioned some other auctioneers about their plans to return to in-room auctions. You can read the article on the Property Investor Today website.
